Children of War

Children of war
Don’t sleep with dolls by their side,
Children of war
Don’t get to hear lullabies,
Children of war,
They don’t go out to play,
Every breath they breathe,
Is a second taken away

Children of war
Don’t believe in fairy-tales,
Children of war
Stare monsters in their face,
Children of war,
They never grow old,
Yet the age a decade,
In the midst of their woes,

Children of war
Don’t get to kick around balls,
Children of war
Wait to buried by their walls,
Children of war,
They rarely scream or cry
But they say a thousand pleas,
With only their vacant eyes,

Children of war
Aren’t heard till they’re dead,
Washed ashore by a wave,
Or taken a bullet to the head,
Children of war
They’re killed by you and me,
A battle that stops,
Once the angels cease to breathe.
